State Champions!
For the third straight year, the team emerged from the IHSA state championships as the state champion. This year, it took an incredible team race to narrowly defeat a motivated and talented sqad from Yorkville, who finished a mere 7 points behind. Running the fastest top-five average in state history, the team needed nearly every second and every place to secure this title. The team was led by Alex Morris, who ran a stellar 16:10 for third on the Detweiller course, which ranks as one of the top five times ever run on the course, including those who beat her Saturday. She was followed by all-state performances by Maggie Gamboa (19th) and Campbell Petersen (25th). In addition, Lucy Westlake finished 28th, Audrey Mendrys (32nd), Claire Hill (34th) and Megan Driscoll (38th) to complete by far the best performance by an entire top seven in state history. Truly, it was an historic performance by a tremendous team that has taken all season and many athletes to build.
Waubonsie Valley Sectional
Sectional Champions!
On a perfect fall day at Waubonsie Valley High School, the team won the IHSA Sectional Championship with an excellent team performance, taking yet another step into Championship Season, and setting us up well for the State Championships on Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Alex Morris led the way for the Huskies, as she finished runner-up in the race. Campbell Petersen led the next pack with her 5th place finish. She was followed through the chute by Lucy Westlake (8th), Claire Hill (10th), Maggie Gamboa (12th), Audrey Mendrys (13th) and Megan Driscoll (14th). The team had a 49-second split from 1-5 and a 65 second split 1-7. Truly, it was a great performance against some excellent runners! We now move on to the state meet, and we hope to see EVERYONE there on Saturday! Let's make this a GREAT week to be a Huskie!
Regional Champions!, Varsity Wins, FS Second at Palatine!
We progressed another step into Championship Season on Saturday at Oswego East High School, as we earned a regional championship with a dominating performance on the campus course on a blustery, cool morning. Alex Morris led Campbell Petersen and Maggie Gamboa in a 1-2-3 sweep, and they were followed by Lucy Westlake (6th) and Audrey Mendrys (8th) to complete the scoring, and Claire Hill and Molly Morton finished 9th and 10th to put all seven runners in the top ten overall. Given that the meet featured several very good teams, it was an especially important step forward. The team ran with confidence and bravery as they moved through the field towards the top of the race. It sets us up for next week, when we look to take yet another step both at the Monster Dash on Tuesday and at the IHSA Sectional on Saturday at Waubonsie Valley HS. We hope again to see lots of you there!
The team continued its march into Championship Season with a solid victory in Palatine at the Last Chance Invitational. Jana Dawson's individual championship led the way for the Huskies as they placed Kate Donaldson (3rd), Alexa Betjemann (4th), Sophie Golobitsh (6th) and Natalie Walsh (7th) close behind to complete the scoring in the varsity race. In the Freshman/Sophomore Race, the team was led by Safiya Bhanpuri's 5th place finish. She was followed by Jillian Carroll (7th), Abby Grace (9th), Keya Porch (11th) and Kelsey Nardi (12th) to complete the scoring, as the FS team finished second to Wheaton-Warrenville Sourth. In both races, however, the girls ran with tremendous grit and determination. It was truly an exciting day! We hope to see many of you at Regionals on Saturday!

On a cold, dew-covered Saturday morning at Waubonsie Valley High School, the team scored an emphatic victory at the DuPage Valley Conference Championships. Alex Morris led Campbell Petersen, Maggie Gamboa, Lucy Westlake, Audrey Mendrys, Megan Driscoll and Molly Morton on a sweep of the first seven places to score a perfect 15 points. It was the seventh conference championship in a row for the team. The performance of the entire team was truly represenatative of the hard work and effort put in by everyone both this entire year, as well as on Saturday. It was truly an excellent way to kick off Championship Season. We now move into the week of regionals where we get the chance to compete twice, both at the Palatine Last Chance Invitational on Tuesday, as well as at the IHSA Regional Championships on Saturday. Both will offer tremendous chances to take strong steps forward, and we hope to have trmendous support at both meets!

Awesome Team Performance Yields a Runner-Up Finish at Griak
On a day where temperatures struggled to reach 50 degrees, the team turned in perhaps its finest performance at the Roy Griak Invitational. The team executed its race plan very well, and it placed seven runners in the top 40 overall. Campbell Petersen led the way with a spectacular 7th place overall finish, and she was followed by Alex Morris, Claire Hill, Maggie Gamboa, Audrey Mendrys, Lucy Westlake and Megan Driscoll all finished in the top 40 of this prestigious invitational which featured six teams ranked in the top 25 of the country. Molly Morton, Madeline Cody and Jana Dawson completed the team performance on the day. It was also a great day for Illinois, as Yorkville won the meet in an awesome performance and Downers Grove South finished third. And now, we turn our attention to the Twilight Invitational on Wednesday at home, where we re-unite the entire team! We hope to see lots of you there!
What a GREAT Night at the Naperville Invite! JV Wins, Varsity and FS Second!
On the season's first truly fall day, the team turned in three excellent races featuring many all-time bests and some tremendous team racing. The Freshman-Sophomore Team kicked off the day by putting all five scorers in the top 13 overall. Keya Porch led the way in 6th, while Safiya Bhanpuri, Jillian Carroll, Abby Grace and Josie Bond finished 10-13 to complete the team scoring. The Varsity also finished second, and they were led by a tremendous performance from Megan Driscoll in 4th place overall, while Molly Morton finished 7th. Madeline Cody (17), Jana Dawson (21) and Sophie Bruce (22) completed the team effort in a strong second place to a great Downers Grove South team. Finally, the JV team scored a scant 19 points to win comfortably. They were led by a 1-2-3 finishe from Alexa Betjemann, Natalie Walsh and Claire Bruce. Julia O'Dekirk was 6th and Gracie Cheatham 7th to complete the team performance. It was a tremendous step forward for everyone, and it sets us up well for our trip north this coming weekend to Minnesota. Congratulations to everyone on a tremenous team performance!
Delayed a Week, the Season Opens with a Successful FTTF Invite! Varsity, Open Win Decisively
After a week that saw our opening meet canceled due to rain in the Quad Cities, the team finally opened its 2018 season with wins at the prestigious First to the Finish Invitational at Peoria's Detweiller Park. The weather was nice, but the course was soft after several days of rain, and the girls ran extremely well against much of the state's very best competition. The meet featured six of the current top seven teams in the state of Illinois. In the Open Race, the team executed the team race plan well, as they moved throughout to take places 2-6, scoring 20 points for the win. Kate Donaldson, Jana Dawson, Sophie Golobitsh, Sophie Bruce and Kelsey Nardi represented the scoring five for the open team. In a race of (not kidding) 708 runners, the entire team ran incredibly well.
In the varsity race, the team was led by Alex Morris' 4th place finish and was followed by Campbell Petersen in 10th, Audrey Mendrys (13th), Lucy Westlake (14th) and Maggie Gamboa (17th) to complete the scoring. Claire Hill was impressive in 21st, as was Megan Driscoll (33rd), Madeline Cody (37th), Molly Morton (40th) and Wagner Osborne (73rd), who completed the team effort. The effort was truly impressive, as it compared favorably with amazing efforts from Downers Grove South and Yorkville, both of whom will be tremendous competion all year long. The most exciting thing about our effort this week is that we still have improvement we can see in significant ways. Truly, however, this was a very, very good start to our 2018 season!

A Great Night at Twilight!
Four races. Four great performances. Four team championships. Against the very best in the state of Illinois, the team ran great races all the way through. It was a very tough night to run, featuring temperatures that hovered at about 85 degrees the entire night and winds that blew steady at 23 miles per hour. In spite of this, the girls turned in a truly wonderful evening of running. The night started off with a win in the open race, led by race champion Lucy Iverson and followed by top ten finishes from Ava Chesnut (4th), Mia Lagioia (6th), Kaylee Hipp (8th) and Ishika Sadhukhan (8th). The freshmen/sophomores were next, led by Kate Donaldson's 2nd place overall finish. She was followed by Sophie Golobitsh (5th), Josie Bond (10th), Kelsey Nardi (14th) and Jillian Carroll (17th) to complete the scoring. The JV race was perhaps the most dominating of the evening, with race champion Natalie Walsh leading a 1-4 sweep with Claire Bruce, Alexa Betjemann and Gracie Cheatham in the 2-4 positions and Julia O'Dekirk close behind in 7th to complete the team scoring in a scant 17 points.
In the varsity race, the team was led by Alex Morris' 3rd place overall finish, but was supported by an amazing pack of Audrey Mendrys (13th), Lucy Westlake (15th), Campbell Petersen (17th) and Claire Hill (22nd) to complete the scoring. Megan Driscoll and Maggie Gamboa finished 23rd and 24th to add significantly to the team effort. Molly Morton (32nd), Sophie Bruce (66th) and Jana Dawson (72nd) completed a wonderful team effort. Congratulations to all who raced on Wednesday, as you each contributed a strong verse to the ongoing chapter of this season. We are excited to see where we can go as we approach Championship Season beginning next week at DVC!

National Runners-Up!
For the second straight year, the team finished as the second best team in the United States, running a great team race on a soggy course at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland at this year's Nike Cross Nationals. With temperatures in the low 40's, the team ran a strong race throguhout. Alex Morris led the way with an amazing 7th place overall finish. She was followed by Claire Hill (72nd), Megan Driscoll (83rd), Campbell Petersen (101st) and Lucy Westlake (113th) to complete the scoring, while Audrey Mendrys (129th) and Maggie Gamboa (181st) completed the team effort. Nike Nationals is always a tough competition, both because of the traditionally-tough course conditions, but also because of the sheer power of the field, featuring all of the best teams in the country. We should be very proud of what we have accomplished this year, and now, we can cheer on Alex as she runs in San Diego next weekend at the Footlocker Championships! Congratulations to everyone on a GREAT season!
